Launch of the Tycoon Competition

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Peter Jones Foundation Tycoon Competition at Shaftesbury Park Primary School! This exciting enterprise challenge gives our pupils the chance to experience what it’s really like to run a business – from idea to marketplace.

The competition is open to children from Year 2 through to Year 6, and it encourages creativity, teamwork and problem-solving. Working in small teams, pupils will develop their own business idea and complete a full business plan. This includes thinking about product design, costs, pricing, marketing and profit. Don’t worry – support and guidance will be available throughout the process to help teams shape their ideas and build confidence.

Once business plans are complete, teams will pitch their ideas, and six successful teams will be selected to progress to the next stage of the competition. These teams will then take their product to market, producing and selling it within school. This hands-on experience helps pupils develop real-world skills such as communication, budgeting and decision-making – all while having lots of fun.

We are incredibly proud of what our pupils have achieved in previous years. Last year, one outstanding team was invited to meet Peter Jones himself and sell their product at a prestigious anniversary event for the Peter Jones Foundation – an unforgettable experience and a huge achievement.

A particularly exciting part of the Tycoon Competition is that teams get to keep their own profits, giving pupils a real sense of reward for their hard work and entrepreneurial thinking. Over the years we have been running the competition at Shaftesbury Park Primary School, the combined profit made by our teams is now over £1,500, which is an amazing accomplishment.

We can’t wait to see what innovative ideas our pupils come up with this year. The Tycoon Competition continues to be a fantastic opportunity for children to build confidence, develop life skills and discover the power of teamwork and creativity.
